Jaffrey 250th - Let's Talk History - Past Anniversaries | Town of Jaffrey

Hosted by the Jaffrey Historical Society on January 12, 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Jaffrey Civic Center.

A LOOK BACK AT JAFFREY ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

The Jaffrey Historical Society and the Jaffrey 250th Committee are sponsoring four historical programs starting in January and continuing monthly through April. The Town of Jaffrey was incorporated in 1773 and a full slate of celebratory events has been planned for 2023 culminating with a grand parade on August 19th.

The first historical program, produced by Bruce Hill and Rob Stephenson, will be a slide show of past anniversary parades from 1873, 1923, 1948, and 1973. Photos show parade marching units, floats, and Jaffrey citizens from days gone by. Old program books, souvenirs, and artifacts from previous anniversaries will be on exhibit.

The program is free and open to the public at the Jaffrey Civic Center on Thursday, January 12th, at 7 PM. In the event of weather cancelation the event will be held on Friday, January 13th. Seating is limited, there are no reservations, and doors will open at 6:30. If there are more guests than available seats, the show will be repeated on Friday, January 13th.

On February 9th, a program by Peter Lambert will feature the life and time of Amos Fortune. On March 9th, Karen Ayers will present an historical program on Notable Women of Jaffrey. The final presentation will be on Indigenous Peoples of Jaffrey on April 13th.

A 2023 Jaffrey Jubilee program book, including a calendar of events, will be available in January. For further information see the website jaffrey250.com or call the Jaffrey Historical Society voicemail at 603-598-0120.
